When I was only three or four

I met a boy at the Sunday School door

He waved his hand and smiled at me

But I hurried inside for I was shy, you see

When I was seven or maybe eight

I met a boy at the Primary School gate

He tugged my hair and smiled at me

But I hurried inside for I was shy, you see

When I was sixteen I met a boy

Standing outside the Dance Hall door

He asked if he would walk with me

I whispered “yes” I was still shy, you see

When I was nineteen I met a boy

Standing outside St Patrick’s Church door

There he was waiting for me

Waving his hand and smiling at me

I was a bride as shy as could be

Tom was the groom waiting to marry me

I have known Tom most of my life

We grew up together in East Belfast

He from Avon Street and me from Chelsea Street

Love you Tom
